About Me

http://www.robertclickner.com/about.html

Bob Clickner has been in practice since 1999 and located in Charlottesville since 2002. He works with patients to get to the root cause(s) of their health complaint; people often have important information and instincts about their bodies that help him solve the problem they are experiencing. Often there is an old injury or illness still making trouble, even in a different area of the body. Once it is treated, the body can do the rest of the healing on its own. He welcomes patients input in the process.

His specialties are in the following areas: Back pain, sciatica, shoulder pain, neck pain (other musculoskeletal pain), migraines, headaches, insomnia, menopause, fibromyalgia, skin problems, whiplash and other accident trauma, post-surgical recovery, chronic fatigue.

Raised in Northern Virginia, Bob Clickner originally planned to work in early childhood and elementary education, but somewhere in college (Virginia Tech) realized it was not for him.  He moved out to New Mexico where there is a strong interest in acupuncture, and ended up enrolling in acupuncture school while working in a food co-op to pay the bills.  After finishing his Masters Degree in 1999 Bob worked as an apprentice under Vince Black, D.O.M., a marital arts instructor and practitioner of Chinese Medicine located in Tucson, AZ.  During this apprenticeship Bob learned Western bodywork techniques which work wonderfully in concert with Chinese medicine. He continued to add bodywork skills to his tool set at Acupuncture Associates of Annapolis, the internal medicine practice of Margaret M. Mullins, MD, where he was hired in 2000.

A love for Virginia brought Robert and his family to Charlottesville, where he established his own acupuncture practice in 2002. Bob is married with two children, two dogs and a cat.

Besides treating patients in clinic, Bob periodically lectures and gives demonstrations to medical students at the University of Virginia. Bob wrote an entire cirriculum for herbal medicine students in addition to lecturing and serving as clinic supervisor for several years at Sacred Plant Traditions in Charlottesville. He was also a lecturer in anatomy and physiology at the Virginia School of Massage. Bob enjoys speaking to groups about new ways to think about your own health care: he has given talks at Whole Foods, Integral Yoga, ACAC, and UVA's Cancer Support Group.
